Somewhere along the way, many of us were taught to make ourselves smaller- to quiet our own ambitions, to avoid taking up too much space, and to pursue goals that feel “safe” instead of bold. But the world doesn’t move forward when people shrink their dreams. It moves forward when people allow themselves to imagine more, and then step toward it with courage.

Dreaming bigger isn’t about chasing perfection or living up to someone else’s definition of success. It’s about believing that your talents, voice, and potential deserve room to grow. When people expand their sense of what’s possible, they unlock new paths for innovation, leadership, creativity, and influence. They give themselves permission to build lives that reflect their strengths instead of their limitations.

Many people hesitate to dream big because they’ve internalized doubt and settled into what they "know." This often encompasses a fear of failure, social expectations, or the belief that ambition must come second to responsibility. But big dreams aren’t reckless. They are acts of self-respect. They encourage people to take risks, learn new skills, pursue opportunities, and rewrite narratives about what they’re capable of achieving.

When people dream bigger, their impact multiplies. They inspire colleagues, friends, and entire communities. They redefine what leadership looks like. They open doors that once seemed locked. And they remind the world that brilliance, strength, and vision are not qualities to hide- they are catalysts for change.

The world does not need people who minimize themselves. It needs people who imagine boldly, walk confidently, and refuse to apologize for wanting more.

I encourage you to dream bigger in 2026... for yourself, for those who will follow you, and for the future that becomes possible when you do.

Here are some practical ways:

  1. A Word of the Year- I take some time every year and brainstorm on a word that aligns to my vision for the year. For 2025, it was "healthy"- and it helped to to remember to focus on my health by aligning growing my own food at home, being more active, and making healthier choices. It resulted in me losing those first 30 stubborn pounds. For 2026, my word is "organized."

  2. Vision Board- Every year I create a vision board and place it front and center in my planner. My word of the year will be the centerpiece of the board, and it will be surrounded by goals and images that will help me achieve my focus and dream for the year.

  3. Write down your goals and dreams- There is power in the pen, ladies! I am always asked how I got to where I am with education and my career. It began with a brainstorm and by writing down my dreams and goals.

  4. Put on your consultant hat- Once you have your goals written down, put on a consultant hat. Take a step back and examine how you might direct someone else to achieve that list. If your goal is to change a career, write it down, then research and write down the steps to achieve it. It's never too late! If you want to become a nurse, decide which type: RN, BSN, LVN. How much time do you have? Where do you see yourself working? Then do a little research: "Requirements to be a LVN in Texas." Remember, don't get overwhelmed. A 2 or 4 year degree may seem like too much, but it's definitely achievable! You can do it, and just imagine what you will be doing in just a few short years!

  5. Reach out to those you trust and admire- lean on your support system. Do you know someone who is where you want to be? Have you asked them how they got there? You would be surprised how much your friends, acquaintances and even professionals just want to help others. We are wired for community!
